Zero Media app privacy policy

What the Zero Media apps for Android, Android TV and the web do with your data. This website's own policy is on the Privacy page.

The short version

Zero Media is an app for a Zero Media server that you, or someone you trust, runs. Your account, what you watch and your settings live on that server, not with us. The app has no ads, no analytics and no tracking, and it sends nothing to us.

Your account

Your account is created on and stored by the Zero Media server you sign in to: your name, an optional email address, your password (stored only as a secure hash) and your activity, such as watch history, progress, favorites, playlists and signed-in devices. The person who runs that server controls this data.

Deleting your account

In the app, open Settings and choose Delete account. This permanently deletes your account on that server and everything tied to it, and cannot be undone. On the web, sign in to your server's Zero Media web app and use the same button in Settings, or ask the server's administrator to delete it. If you cannot reach either, write to rewindbeacon@gmail.com and we will help you contact the server's operator. We hold no copy of your data.

What stays on your device

The app stores your sign-in token, your server's address, your settings, cached artwork and any videos you download for offline viewing. Signing out removes your sign-in; uninstalling the app removes everything.

Who the app talks to

The app connects only to your Zero Media server. Artwork, details, subtitles and video are fetched by that server from the sources its operator has set up. Movie and TV details may come from TMDB: this product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.

Casting

When you cast to a TV or speaker, the app uses Google Cast to find devices on your local network (Android asks for the nearby-devices permission for this), and the device you pick receives the address of what you play.

Notifications

The app shows notifications on your device for playback controls and downloads. It does not register for push messages, so no notification token is created or sent anywhere.

Children

Zero Media is not directed at children under 13. Access to individual libraries is set by the server's administrator.

Changes and questions
